The sources that mention Lake Batur are Lontar Kesmu Dewa, Lontar Usana Bali, and Lontar Raja Purana Batur. It is stated that Pura Batur has existed since the era of Empu Kuturan, namely the 10th century until the beginning of the 11th century. The vast area and the many pelinggih-pelinggih indicate that Pura Batur is the pengiwi of the kings who ruled Bali, as well as being a heavenly heaven. In Pura Batur, Dewi Danu is mentioned in Lontar Usana Bali, whose translation is as follows:

It is a story, happened in the month of Marga Sari (month V) when the Forced Kresna (Tilem) was that Betara Pasupati in India was moving the summit of Mount Maha Meru divided into two, held with left and right hands then brought to Bali to be used as his son's sthana, namely Betara Putrajaya (Hyang Maha Dewa) and the top of the mountain that was carried by the left hand became Mount Batur as the Betari Danuh sthana, both of which were the ulu of the island of Bali. These two mountains are a symbol of the elements of Purusa and Pradana from Sang Hyang Widhi. Pura Batur is a place of worship for Hindus throughout Bali, especially Central, North and East Bali asking for safety in the field of rice fields. So that at the time of the wali puja which fell on Purnamaning to X (kedasa) the whole community, especially all the subak kelian, came to Pura Batur giving "Suwinih". That is if there is a pest disaster.
